Laura Shallcrass

Laura Shallcrass is a visual artist and author who creates artwork for publishing, packaging and web. She works in many mediums including gouache, oil and graphite but also digital and new media. She is a graduate of Massey University (BDes - Illustration) and has been illustrating commercially for over 10 years. Laura’s passion to create artworks which celebrate nature and natural beauty emphasise our duty as caretakers of the natural world. Thematically her recent work has focused on mental health, preservation of the environment and female power. Her storytelling uses a quiet poetry which leaves the reader to discern their own meanings based on their unique perspectives, with multiple visual narratives and hidden details a signature of her work. She has participated in a number of group exhibitions as well as 4 solo shows. She was a finalist for the Red Book Art Prize 2013 and is published in the Red Book, Remix and Extra Curricular alongside a number of other publications from New Zealand and Australia.
