A native of Japan and currently based in Tokyo, Komiya studied graphic design at a vocational school before working in advertising at a design firm. Now a freelance graphic designer and collage illustrator, she draws inspiration from antique objects and vintage advertisements, blending materials from both the past and present in her work. Komiya is particularly drawn to the humorous and mysterious qualities that emerge from this fusion. Finally, due to Komiya’s deep affection for animals, her colorful but yet charming creatures play a leading role in her thought provoking designs inviting the viewer to engage with a playful and imaginative world.
